As work winds down at the end of the year, our eyes turn outward as we think of ways to give back to our communities. December 2023 was our season of giving as our First Wave Singapore headquarters and Hi Yun Taiwan branch held our community care days in the month.
First Wave Singapore Beach Day Cleanup
The Singapore Surfers at the beach we just cleaned with our bags full of trash!
On December 20, our Singapore office was shaken up when our Surfers left their desks and headed out of the office for the Beach Clean-up event! At First Wave, our dedication to giving back isn’t just a concept; it’s an attitude we weave into our typical routine.
Everyone pitched in, regardless of department or role.
Cleaning up trash from the beach.
We also picked up trash from the nearby East Coast Park!
We cleaned a stretch of East Coast Beach, picking up trash from the park and the shore. A total of 5 kg of trash was collected, including plastic and general waste, and the collected plastic waste was sent for recycling.
Outside our offices, we seek green spaces to reconnect with nature and unwind from the stresses of everyday life. By keeping our natural places clean and beautiful, we preserve their intrinsic tranquility for ourselves and the public to enjoy.
Hi Yun Taiwan Clothes Drive
Our Taiwan Surfers ready to donate boxes full of clothes!
In the same month, our Taiwan branch members embodied the spirit of the season of giving and ran a clothes donation drive to give back to the underprivileged.
Spurred on by the HR department’s suggestion of giving back, the entire Taiwan office banded together for two weeks to collect clothes from their families and clean out their wardrobes of rarely worn garments.
Neatly folding the clothes to place inside the boxes.
Even with neatly packed clothes, the box is filled to the brim!
On Christmas Day, our Taiwanese surfers filled two large boxes with more than thirty pieces of clothing and donated to the Eden Social Welfare Foundation. By donating these pre-loved clothes, we hope that they will go to someone who will get good use out of them and give these garments a new lease on life. Extra clothes are perfect for bundling up to keep warm during the coldest time of the year.
The Eden Social Welfare Foundation (伊甸基金會) is a Taiwanese organization whose mission is to help individuals with physical and mental disabilities. They provide a wide variety of services such as early intervention services, rehabilitation, vocational training, employment, long-term care services, and have also fought for disability laws and rights in Taiwan through their years of operation. Outside of aid rendered to individuals with disabilities, the organization additionally helps new immigrants to Taiwan assimilate into their new home and provides community reconstruction for disaster victims, including but not limited to victims of the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake.
First Wave’s Commitment to Giving Back
Our First Wave Community Care program is one of many ways we empower our employees to create positive change in the world, while upholding our values of integrity and corporate citizenship. Our people are our greatest assets, and outside of career growth, we also support their commitment to social responsibility.
Every small effort counts towards making a difference, and we continue to seek out opportunities to give back to our local communities that shape our lives and careers.
